HISTORY

The Rose Hill facility has served the needs of Muscogee County School District students for over 100 years.   The initial "Rose Hill Academy" was built at the request of private citizens in 1884.  The original two room wooden building was modified in 1897 with the addition of two more rooms and a second floor.  The wooden structure was replaced by the two story brick building in 1900. The facility opened its doors on January 26, 1900.  In 1955 the cafetorium was added and the boiler converted from coal to gas.

Although the school now serves the needs of high school students, it was utilized as an elementary school for many years.  For the past several years, the school district has used the facility as an alternative school.  Initially, both high school and middle school students were housed in the building, however, in September 2000, the school district began housing the middle school students at the Daniel Middle School building on Manchester Expressway.
